My home: sitting room + WINNER!

Hello! And happy Monday! I'm recovering from a wonderful brithday weekend in snowy Kullaberg where we enjoyed a traditional Swedish julbord at Kullagårdens Wärdshus. I feel like one very spoilt girl! Meanwhile, back at the ranch I set about putting a few cosy Christmas touches to our sitting room while the snow fell outside. I love the simplicity of white Amarylis and Hyacinth's at Christmas. So pretty!
And before I forget I have an important announcement to make too...the winner of the beautiful Kay Bojesen Grand Prix 16 piece cutlery set......

....drum roll please!......the winner is Merrilee from Cake, Crumb and Pudding. Congratulations! Please contact me within the next 14 days. And thank you all for your wonderful entries I wish you all could have won. The good news is that you can visit the Kay Bojesen Facebook page where they'll be holding more give-aways in the up coming months (and everything will shortly be translated into English for yours truly!) :)

I hope you all had a lovely weekend too?

Guest post: DIY Christmas Tree

I am happy to jump in here at My Scandinavian Home this second Sunday of Advent. My name is Mette and my blog is called Make-Living which has a DIY focus.
This Christmas tree DIY idea came to me when I saw a picture of a similar one over at Tierlantijn but couldn't order it. It's similar to the one in shown in a Christmas post last year here on MSH and that has been doing the rounds on Pinterest. I Hope this little Christmas DIY inspires you too! :)

This Christmas tree is quite neat. You can make it as big as you like, and can have it both indoors and outdoors. And the best thing is that it lights up any dark space at home without needles all over the floor…..And you can use it year after year!!!

What you need:
  • One wood panel approximately 7 cm wide for the tree trunk, which you can make as tall as you like ( mine is about 1 meter)
  • A number of 7 cm wide wood panels for the branches (I have used 7). Cut the branches in staggered lengths so that they form the shape of the tree you would like. I made a triangular template in the shape I wanted and then cut the branches accrording to this.
  • Nail the branches onto the trunk at an approximate distance of 5 - 7 cm
  • I used a special grey wood stain (not paint) to give the wood an old touch

How about you? Do you have any plans for Christmas DIY that you'd like to share with My Scandinavian Home and Make-Living? I'd love to hear your ideas.

PS. Thank you my lovely man for helping me put this Christmas tree together and thank you Niki for letting me share my Christmas DIY here on My Scandinavian Home.

Happy 2nd Sunday of Advent to you all!

Swedish ceramicist's living space

Iiiiit's Friday - yay! For those of you stressing about Christmas shopping I'm taking a day off Christmas today so that you can mentally transport yourself to this tranquil black, white and grey space and be calm! This beautiful open planning living space is the home of Swedish ceramicist Kajsa Cramer photographed by Frida Ramstedt from Trendenser.

I don't usually post on the weekend but this Sunday there'll be a very exciting guest post to celebrate the 2nd day of advent so pop back if you feel like a little DIY inspiration. And don't forget that Sunday is the last day to enter my big Christmas give-away to win a totally fab Danish design cutlery set worth 325 euros too!

Pretty Christmas: moss and boxwood

There's nothing like bringing in a little boxwood and moss into the home at Christmas. Last night I had a play around with some wire and moss and realised just how tricky some of the beautiful decorations you see on Pinterest can be, despite looking so simple! By the time I finished there was more moss on the table and floor than om my wreath! So I have borrowed some DIY tips from  Martha Stewart Living which have been expertly executed by Ashley Ann in the two images below. How pretty?

And in case you're in need of more inspiration for greenery this Christmas, I love these ideas....

Allt i Hemmet

This year I love the more simple wreaths, nothing fancy, just a little greenery and a pretty white candle.

I'm going to dash off quickly today as it's actually my birthday :) No one is more excited than my four year old who thinks there's going to be a full on party when she gets back from nursery, so I have to quickly rustle up a cake and some friends, what a lovely excuse! :)

Have a lovely day.
